Why Stories Disappear
Instagram Stories are designed to be ephemeral — they delete automatically after 24 hours. The only exception is Highlights, which their creator manually saves. If you want to keep a Story, you need to act before the 24-hour window closes.
Saving Your Own Stories
Instagram notifies you when your Story is about to expire. In the Story viewer: tap the three-dot menu → Save. You can also save to Highlights so it stays permanently on your profile.
Saving Someone Else's Public Story
- Copy the profile URL of the account whose Story you want to save.
- Open FreeMediaKit's Story Saver.
- Paste the profile link. Active Stories from that public account appear for download.
Limitations
- Only works for public accounts.
- Must be done while the Story is still live (within 24 hours of posting).
- Stories with music stickers may have audio removed in some tools due to licensing.
