How to Optimise Images for Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn & More (2026)

How to Optimise Images for Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn & More (2026)

Why Each Platform Is Different

Each social network applies its own compression algorithm when you upload. Upload an image at the wrong dimensions and it gets scaled and re-compressed — losing quality in the process. Upload at the exact right dimensions and the platform has no reason to touch it.

Instagram

  • Square post: 1080×1080px, JPG, max 30 MB
  • Portrait post (best reach): 1080×1350px
  • Story/Reel: 1080×1920px
  • Profile picture: 320×320px (displays at 110px on desktop)

X / Twitter

  • In-feed image: 1200×675px (16:9 ratio)
  • Profile picture: 400×400px
  • Header: 1500×500px

LinkedIn

  • Post image: 1200×627px
  • Profile picture: 400×400px (min)
  • Cover photo: 1584×396px

Facebook

  • Feed post: 1200×630px
  • Story: 1080×1920px
  • Cover photo: 851×315px

Tip: Use JPG for Social

PNG files are larger and platforms convert them to JPEG anyway. Upload JPG at 80–85% quality for the sharpest result after the platform's re-compression.
